Event Details

Join us as we combine our love for the rich history and foods of Oakland, CA through a lens of the Black experience! As the center for the “Black Renaissance of the West” in the 1960’s and 70’s, Oakland used to be considered an epicenter for the Black experience in the United States. From a bustling population of 47% Black residents to our current demographic of just over 23%, the changing tide of the city has seriously effected the Black population for a number of reasons.

We will explore more about the food and culture of Black Oakland in this hybrid walking-mobile tour, designed to highlight the contributions of past and present movements within and beyond the Black community.

Throughout the tour, we will feed your foodie spirit by tasting bites from between 4- 6 different Black-owned eateries (depending on availability) to introduce you to what Oakland has to offer, including their history in Oakland and some of their signature plates.
