Celebrate Earth Day! Celebrate Oakland Youth!

The Prescott Circus Theatre, with the Oakland Spirit Orchestra, and the YAP returns to the stage with a Spectacular Spring Showcase featuring the talent and pride of Oakland youth!

Juggling, acrobatics, stilt dancing, music, and much more! Ordinary children performing extraordinary skills! Featuring youth from over 10 Oakland public schools.

A multi-disciplinary, multigenerational show about caring for one another and caring for the world.

Accessibility:

  • Follow the signs from the parking lot to the amphitheater
  • The Mosswood Amphitheater is an open air concrete amphitheater located on the east side of Mosswood Park. It is accessed by paved walkways from Broadways Ave. sidewalks and from the Webster St. parking lot and recreation center.
  • Walkways are uneven and covered in leaves/ sticks in some areas. There are steep paved walkways to access the seating area and stage in the amphitheater. It is exposed to the sun / elements.

Umbrella People was conceived by Oakland Spirit Orchestra Directors and OUSD teachers, Alison Balano and Tarika Lewis, as a reflection on the people in our world who shelter others, provide safety, and create spaces where others can thrive. The project aims to engage audiences and young artists in song, music, and circus to explore ways in which we care for, and receive care from one another.

Oakland Spirit Orchestra is a youth orchestra composed of elementary, middle, and high school students from over 5 West Oakland public schools. The kids construct their own arrangements, write their own music, and improvise. The Orchestra is directed by Oakland Unified School District teacher, Alison Balano, Tarika Lewis, and Baba Wainwright.

Oakland Unified School District’s Young Adult Program supports young adult learners (18-22 years old) with moderate to severe disabilities as they become responsibly independent adults that have meaningful connections, routines, and participation in their community. The YAP choir is led by Michelle Jordan.

Transportation and Parking

The Mosswood Park Amphitheater is located in Mosswood Park between the recreation center and Broadway Ave., near the corner of W. MacArthur Blvd and Broadway.

The Amphitheater is accessible by paved walkways from the Mosswood Recreation parking lot, W. MacArthur Blvd., and Broadway Street.

Public Transportation:

  • 10 minute walk from the MacArthur BART Station.
  • AC Transit Bus lines 14, 57, 51A, 6

Driving / Parking:

  • Street parking along W. MacArthur Blvd. and Webster St.
  • Kaiser Permanente Parking Garage, across the street from the Amphitheater at 3510 Broadway.

¡Prescott Circus Theatre, con la Oakland Spirit Orchestra, regresa al escenario con una espectacular exhibición de primavera que presenta el talento y el orgullo de la juventud de Oakland! Umbrella People, es un espectáculo multidisciplinario y multi generacional sobre el cuidado mutuo y el cuidado del mundo.

“Umbrella People” fue concebida por los músicos Alison Balano y Tarika Lewis para reflexionar sobre las personas que son los refugios en la tormenta, las personas que comparten, cuidan y ayudan a otros en el mundo.

El anfiteatro en Mosswood Park tiene asientos escalonados de concreto. ¡Trae una manta si lo deseas! El espectáculo dura aproximadamente una hora.

Con jóvenes de Oakland de 8 a 16 años de edad de Prescott Circus Performance Company y estudiantes de los programas escolares de PCT en cinco escuelas públicas adicionales: Prescott Elementary, Esperanza Elementary, Montera Middle, Piedmont Avenue Elementary, REACH Academy y Sankofa United.

Con la Orquesta Oakland Spirit (OSO) y el Coro YAP.

OSO es una orquesta juvenil compuesta por estudiantes de primaria, secundaria y preparatoria de más de 5 escuelas públicas de West Oakland. Los niños construyen sus propios arreglos, escriben su propia música e improvisan. La orquesta está dirigida por la maestra del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oakland, Alison Balano, Tarika Lewis y Baba Wainwright.

El Programa para Adultos Jóvenes del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oakland apoya a los estudiantes adultos jóvenes (18 a 22 años) con discapacidades moderadas a graves a medida que se convierten en adultos responsables e independientes que tienen conexiones, rutinas y participación significativas en su comunidad. El coro YAP está dirigido por Michelle Jordan.
