Merchants of Reality is a San Francisco based artist collective that was formed in November 2011 by seven artists from various disciplines who shared a passion for creating. Now including fourteen members, the collective occupies 285 9th Street as a 24-hour workspace where artists are free to produce work in a range of media: from painting, printmaking, film and sound, to theater, woodworking, digital installation, human puppetry, and culinary experimentation.
Through skill-sharing and collaboration, the process of each individual’s work is informed and nurtured. The effect of these artists coming from disparate modes of expression and working in close proximity becomes alchemical. Work displayed in this exhibition reflects this phenomenon and emphasizes the power of creating one’s own reality.
Artists: Aimee Amparo, Baraka Noel, Bem, Bisi, Chris Love, Daisy, Emelia Loomis, John Espey, Joshua King, Karla MiLugo, Larissa Grant, Leah Malinowski, Meredith Conner, and Shane Houchin.
