The fat knight Falstaff is literature’s archetypal comic figure: An amoral scoundrel who commits all kinds of outrages, but in an amusing sort of way. He is redeemed by his congeniality, which makes him lovable. His ability to laugh at himself ultimately – and surprisingly – brings out the best in others.
By alternating exciting video clips with concise commentary, Larry Oppenheim allows the story of the opera to naturally unfold.
