Event Details

Jupiter will be ringing in 2011 with a great band right out of Oakland and a Jup-favorite this past year, Innerspace. Rain or shine, Jup will be doin it up with party favors, champagne toasts, special dinner menu, and a great night of music!

Holding down Wednesday nights at The Layover in Oakland, Innerspace (aka for awhile as The Way) is an improvisational progressive rock duo from Oakland, CA, comprised of keyboardist Steve Taylor and drummer extraordinaire Daniel Yasmin. Having met at Oakland’s First Friday Artwalk, they immediately began making music together. When Steve heard Daniel playing breakbeats on a custom made drumkit in the middle of the street, he had no choice but to wheel his piano over for an impromptu jam. The chemistry was immediate, and they soon had a residency at The Layover in downtown Oakland. Drawing from disparate elements such as progressive rock, drum and bass, and afrobeat, they began creating a sound that was utterly unique, funky, and groundbreaking. Calling it prog-hop and stunt jazz, amongst other names, they have collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including members of Can, Bright Eyes, and Rogue Wave (whom Steve has contributed keyboards to for much of the last year).
