Freespace Pop-Up Community Center
Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.
Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.
Head to Freespace for an outdoor screening of the iconic documentary Style Wars.
Bring a picnic blanket to sit on, snacks, and a warm snugly blanket.
Style Wars is a 1983 documentary on hip hop culture. The film has an emphasis on graffiti, although bboying and rapping are covered to a lesser extent.
It won the Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival.
