Freespace Pop-Up Community Center
Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.
Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.
Think you’re a pro at folding, creasing and paper? Come test your paper airplane creation prowess in a Paper Airplane Contest at Freespace on Friday, June 21, 2013.
They’ll bring a variety of paper, fabric, glue, and sticks. You bring your engineering skills. Furthest flight and prettiest airplane might win trophies.
Solar Creativity Challenge: Think you’re a creativity maverick? Think you can make anything out of anything else? SCRAP will bring a variety of supplies, toys, corks, gizmos, and CDs. Your goal is to create a sculpture based on a Summer Solstice theme to be announced at the Challenge. They’ll supply all the materials and tools, you bring a friend and your competitive spirit. Let’s see who will be crowned the Creativity King (or Queen).
