Take a guided tour of the Peralta House Museum’s historical exhibits, which weave California history with the stories of today’s Fruitvale community.
This beautiful Victorian was built in 1870, right next to Antonio Peralta’s original house: the first non-Native American building in the East Bay. An immersive audio tour, photography, sculpture, replicas, and film tell the story of the birthplace of Oakland, the Peralta family and the Ohlone Native Americans. The Peralta House exhibits rely on interviews with locals to explore Oakland’s unique history.
Tours of the Peralta House are Wednesday through Saturday, 2:30-5:30 pm. As each tour is limited to 10 people, advance reservations are recommended. Phone (510) 532-9142 to reserve. Tours are $5, children under 10 are free.
The outdoor six-acre site also contains additional walk-through exhibits about the Ohlone and daily life on the Peralta rancho, open during daylight hours for free self-guided tours.
