Event Details

Amanda Marchand and Leah Sobsey will be presenting their work on This Earthen Door: Emily Dickinson’s Herbarium (2024), a compendium of anthotype photographs (a 19th-century photographic process that uses plant-based pigments to create images), based on the plants which grew in Emily Dickinson’s garden. The publication has received numerous recent awards, including 2024 Lenscratch Art & Science Awards – 1st Place Winner. Marchand is a MacDowell Colony, Hermitage Artist Retreat, and Headlands Center for the Arts Fellow, and holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Ala Ebtekar will present celestial cyanotype scenes, exposed under the night sky. His artwork includes images from fantastic cloudscapes, a fantastic lunar scene over multiple images, and several photographs exposed from the Lick Observatory glass plate archives.
