Here’s a great free weekend hike idea from SFGATE’s David Curran

If you plan to go to Point Reyes for a weekend hike, many of the trails are almost always crowded. Especially on weekends. Especially around Spring Break.

This doesn’t have to happen. Point Reyes has 150 miles of trails. Many of the less crowded Point Reyes hikes involve forays along the ridges and through the forests, because these areas are often NOT the destination of people wanting to go to a place known as a “national seashore.”

For extensive details about the hike including photos detailed tips on hidden trails for all abilities, links to trail maps, and (mostly) empty parking lots, check out the article Point Reyes is packed on weekends. But not on this gorgeous hike from SFGATE

When you head to one of these forest-oriented hikes, you’ll notice a difference as soon as you reach the trailhead parking lot where you could park almost sideways and no one would even notice.  The Sky-Fire Lane-Laguna Trail Loop, for example, is one of many hikes without crowds that Point Reyes has for you, even on weekends that may be packed with people only a few miles away.
