Event Details

One of the West Coast’s most powerful and moving new dramas, “Port Chicago 50,” will be performed during San Francisco Fleet Week on Friday, October 11th, and Saturday, October 12th, at the Great Star Theater. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Port Chicago Disaster, a crucial event in our nation’s history that deeply influenced civil rights and military justice. The production also commemorates an important historical moment, celebrating the U.S. Navy’s recent exoneration of 256 African American sailors on July 17, 2024, who had been unjustly blamed for the Port Chicago Disaster during World War II. The event signified a significant step in acknowledging the racial injustices the sailors endured and recognizing their bravery and service.
