Event Details

Your time is up!

The deadline to file your 2014 taxes is April 15th. Here’s a few tips for tax day along with a few freebies:

Filing Extensions: – It’s super easy to file an extension as long as you don’t owe any money.

  • IRS / Federal Taxes – You need to file Form 4868 by April 15th to get an extension to file until October 15th. No explanation is required, but you have to make sure you don’t owe any money or you’ll get fined.
  • California – For state taxes, you get an automatic extension to October 15th; no filing is necessary.

Where Post Offices are open late – Unfortunately for 2014, post offices in San Francisco will not have special hours today. If you need a late postmark in the Bay Area, only Oakland and San Jose have mailboxes that are collected at 10 pm.

The latest collection boxes in SF are
– 821 Irving Street (6 pm) – Collection Box
– 1400 Pine St. (6 pm) – Collection Box
– Parkside, 1800 Taraval St. (6 pm) – Post Office
– Chinatown, 867 Stockton St. (6 pm) – Post Office
– Rincon Finance Center, 180 Steuart St. (6 pm) – Post Office
– Lakeshore Plaza, 1543 Sloat Blvd. (6 pm) – Post Office
SFO – 660 Westfield Road (8 pm cutoff for postmarks)
– 1300 Evans Ave. (8:30 pm) – Post Office
** Please check usps.com before heading out to confirm these hours and that collection will take place that late.
