Event Details

Hosted by Drew Cameron of Combat Paper and Chelsea Wills, this two-part workshop will focus on spreading love both locally and abroad in an effort to strengthen everyone’s sense of location within communities during these tumultuous political times.

This event will encourage participants to write their own letters to people they know intimately, or individuals to whom they have never met, alive or dead. A new letter will be sent out each day, coinciding with the first 100 days of the 45th president’s term. Using love to foster new connections is an exploration in collective resistance, agility, and healing.

  • Neighborhood Story-sharing: “If it happened yesterday, it’s history!” – Join an afternoon workshop of swapping memories, experiences, and local history. New neighbors and long-time residents are welcome to share stories about community change where North Oakland, South Berkeley and Emeryville come together. Oakland wiki members will be on hand to teach you how to use their online tools.
  • Crochet Jam with Ramekin O’Arwisters – Crochet Jam is a community-based art project that invites participants to crochet strips of fabric into large, free-form, organic rag-rug tapestries in a safe environment to foster creativity, liberation, and social interaction. No attempt is made to dictate the creative process and participants crochet together without concern for the finished product. Participants are welcome to bring fabric to contribute to the project. Instruction in single-stitch crochet is provided. Crochet Jam is a family-friendly event. All ages are welcome.
  • The Rhinoceros Project – In collaboration with 100 Days Action, participants will help sew a giant Rhinoceros together, inspired by Albrecht Durer’s 1515 woodblock, “The Rhinoceros.” Contemporary sewing circles become spaces where coming together and stitching cultivates a sense of intimacy, where strangers become friends.
