Event Details

Get back to your roots at CUESA’s Root Celebration on Saturday, November 16, 2013.

Never tried a parsnip, turnip, or rutabega? Open your heart (and belly) to these nutritious, versatile, and delicious winter crops through a day of tasting, learning, and cooking.

2013 Root Celebration Schedule

  • 10 am to 1 pm: Visit the CUESA Classroom to taste a variety of root vegetables found in the market, including carrots, beets, radishes, rutabaga, turnips, parsnips, and more. Sample roasted root vegetables and guess what they look like raw. Don’t forget to pick up CUESA’s Guide to Roots and recipes.

Enjoy a root-themed farmer talk and cooking demos in the CUESA Classroom:

  • 10 am: Meet farmer Grant Brians of Heirloom Organic Gardens, who grows many varieties of root vegetables, and learn why he loves these underground gems.
  • 11 am: Isaac Miller, Maven
  • Noon: Jorge Alvarado, La Mar Cebicheria

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
