Sailor Info Session: Clipper Round the World Yacht Race: | SF

San Francisco, get ready to celebrate the arrival of the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race fleet as it races from China, crossing the planet’s biggest ocean to reach South Beach Yacht Club, arriving on April 12 and re-starting the race on the April 19, 2014.
They will host Open Boat Tours from 3-7 pm on April 15, 16, 17, 2014 when ocean-lovers and thrill seekers are welcome to get on board and explore the matched fleet of twelve 70-foot ocean racing yachts. Crew members who are currently sailing round the world will be on hand to answer questions about life on the high seas as they give tours of the racing yachts which are their homes for the 10 months of the 40,000 mile ocean odyssey.

The event was established in 1995 by legendary British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to give everyone, regardless of sailing experience, the opportunity to discover the exhilaration of ocean racing. 670 people representing more than 40 nations will compete in the Clipper 13-14 Race on twelve brand new 70-foot yachts designed by renowned naval architect Tony Castro.
The overall race is divided into sixteen individual stages. Since leaving London, teams have raced via Brest, France, Rio de Janiero, Cape Town, Albany in Western Australia, Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane, Singapore, Hong Kong and Qingdao, China. After completing a brief stopover in San Francisco, the fleet will continue to Panama, Jamaica, New York, Derry Londonderry and Dan Helder, The Netherlands.
