San Francisco Fireworks at Golden Gate Bridge: USA’s 250th Anniversary

San Francisco is going all-in for July 4, 2026 with a truly once-in-a-generation moment: fireworks launching directly from the Golden Gate Bridge for the United States’ 250th anniversary.
This is not your usual waterfront show. For the first time in 14 years, and only the third time in its history, the iconic bridge itself becomes the launch site, turning the entire skyline into the backdrop for a massive Bay Area celebration.
The display is expected to begin around 9:30 PM on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with fireworks launched from the bridge towers and barges positioned in the Bay, including the annual fireworks show near Pier 39.
If you’ve seen SF fireworks before, this is a completely different scale and setup.
What’s Different for 2026
- Fireworks launched directly from the Golden Gate Bridge towers
- Additional barge show near Pier 39 / northern waterfront
- Only official SF fireworks show for July 4, 2026
- Viewing shifts toward the north waterfront and Presidio-facing areas
Best places to watch
You’ll want a clear line of sight toward the Golden Gate Bridge, ideally with northwest-facing views.
Good viewing spots
- Crissy Field (closest and most direct view): Waterfront viewing area within the Presidio. The Crissy Field parking lot will be closed to the general public from 6:00 am on July 4 through 6:00 am on July 5.
- Marina Green (wide-open classic viewing area): The Marina Green parking lot will be closed to the general public from 6:00 am on July 4 through 6:00 am on July 5.
- Fort Mason and Aquatic Park edges
- Pier 39 and the northern Embarcadero/Fisherman’s Wharf area: Viewing locations in this area include Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf, including the block bounded by The Embarcadero, Jefferson Street, and Taylor Street.
Spots that are not ideal this year
- Ferry Building / downtown waterfront (poor angle)
- Ocean Beach (wrong side of the bridge)
- Any blocked streets without bridge visibility
Getting there
This will be one of the busiest nights of the year along the waterfront.
- Public transit is strongly recommended
- Parking near Crissy Field and the Marina will fill early
- Expect heavy traffic around the Presidio and waterfront neighborhoods
- Plan on walking from transit drop-offs to viewing areas
Arriving late and expecting to get close in a car will not be realistic.
Timing
- Fireworks begin around 9:30 PM
- Show lasts roughly 20-25 minutes
- Crowds will build well before sunset and movement afterward will be slow
