SF Chinatown “Walkway Weekends” Saturdays & Sundays (Thru Dec. 27)

The event San Francisco Chinatown’s iconic Grant Avenue will be closed off to traffic and cars for a pleasant open walkway under vibrant red lanterns every weekend from July through December.

Enjoy a historic street stroll, outdoor dining, and an Asian shopping experience.

Update: Originally scheduled to end on September 20th, the SF Chinatown Merchants Association announced on 9/20 that the “Walkway Weekends” will be extended every Saturday and Sunday through December 27th.

  • Boiling Shrimp Restaurant – Reasonably priced off the beaten path at 150 Waverly Place (near Washington) with authentic Northern Chinese comfort food and quick bites including Pot stickers, fried rice, wonton noodle soup, and fried seafood noodles.
  • Bow Han Restaurant – Known for Chinese comfort food, specialties include chicken, sausage and mushroom clay pot, curry chicken, Kung bow prawn, fresh oysters, fried eggplant and spring rolls. 850 Grant near Washington.
  • China Live! – A daily changing menu that often includes roasted peking duck with seasonal fruit glazes, taipei braised beef noodle soup, sheng jian bro dumplings, pan fried pork dumplings, lap cheong, chrysanthemum salad with starfruit vineyard, and sesame soft serve, and mango shaved ice.   • Chinatown Restaurant – Open for outdoor dining and take-out Monday through Saturday 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Diners can enjoy balcony dining at this colorful restaurant, which serves dim sum, seafood, Peking duck and many traditional Northern and Southern Chinese dishes. 744 Washington across from Portsmouth Sq.
  • Dim Sum Corner – New restaurant at picturesque corner of California and Grant serves cooked-to-order dim sum dishes prepared as delectable bite-sized portions in bamboo bow steamer baskets. Boba drinks and fruit teas also available.
  • Far East Cafe – Iconic restaurant at 631 Grant serves popular Cantonese dishes including fried chicken wings, wonton soup with vegetables and sweet and sour spare ribs.
  • Grand Place Restaurant – Well known for hanging ducks in the window and specializes in rice porridge soups, Chinese donuts, roast duck, and wonton noodle soup. 737 Washington btwn Grant and Portsmouth Square.
  • Mr. Jiu’s – Contemporary Chinese restaurant in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, which celebrates the legacy of traditional Chinese recipes while embracing the California heritage of local and sustainable produce and pantry. In 2017 named one of Bon Appetite Magazine’s best new restaurants in the US. Tues-Sat. 1:00-6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday evening outdoor dining coming soon.   • Spicy King – Spicy Szechuan and classic country style dishes including green onion pancakes, bbq chicken wings, hot pots, organic vegetables, spicy garlic prawns, fish fillet with chopped red pepper with spicy jalapeño. 65 Waverly Place.
  • Washington Bakery – Look for Hong Kong inspired dishes with a bistro flare serving hand-crafted drinks (pearl milk teas), pastries, cakes, Chinese Fried Bread plus dishes like Won Ton Soup, Pork Lion Porridge, and Shrimp Dumpling Braised Noodles. 733 Washington btwn Grant and Portsmouth Square.
