The San Francisco History Association hosts monthly talks which explore our city’s enchanting history in depth.
Each month, a local history expert hosts a themed talk usually accompanied by a slide show with light refreshments.
Gladys Hansen, San Francisco’s archivist emeritus, has dedicated her career to researching and sharing information about the 1906 earthquake and fire.
One of her accomplishments has been to identify the actual number of people who died in the 1906 disaster. She has written several books about San Francisco history, including Denial of Disaster and San Francisco Almanac. Recently, she co-authored (with Richard Hansen) 1906 San Francisco Earthquake; and the e-book, Earthquake, Fire & Epidemic: Personal Accounts of the 1906 Disaster with Richard Hansen and Dr. William Blaisdell. She is also the founder of The Virtual Museum of the City San Francisco.
