On February 11, SFMOMA partners with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to host a Naturalization Ceremony for more than 40 new U.S. citizens in front of Diego Rivera’s inspirational Pan American Unity mural in the museum’s free-to-see ground floor Roberts Family Gallery.
Attendees include 40–50 individuals from around the globe who will take an oath of allegiance to become naturalized U.S. citizens. The speaking program will feature Anupa Bajwa, Tech Area Lead at NASA Ames Research Center; Ellen Jenkins, Section Chief, USCIS San Francisco Field Office; Christopher Bedford, the Helen and Charles Schwab Director of SFMOMA; as well as Maria Castro, assistant curator of painting and sculpture at SFMOMA. The oath will be administered by Judge Lisa J. Cisneros.
The ceremony will take place in SFMOMA’s free-to-see Roberts Family Gallery on Floor 1, in front of Diego Rivera’s Pan American Unity mural. This colossal 10-panel fresco offers an opportunity for visitors to connect to its themes of migration, identity and technological innovation.
Members of the public are welcome to watch the ceremony from the Roman steps.
