Event Details

The final day has come for Japantown’s oldest business, Benkyodo Company.

The shop, which opened in 1906, makes traditional hand-made Japanese rice cakes, manju and mochi, are closing up after 115 years and going into retirement.

From Benkyodo’s website – “After 115 years of business, Benkyodo will be closing our doors on March 31, 2022. As we head into retirement, we thank you all for your years of support and patronage.”

But you still have one last chance before they close if you don’t mind standing in line. The lines are long on March 31, their final day with some people getting in line as early as 2:30am the night before. They are open from 9am until approximately 3pm (or until they run out). They are not accepting email or phone orders. No credit cards, cash only.
