SF’s 31st Brazilian “Capoeira Batizado” Festival at Potrero del Sol Park (2023)

Experience capoeira—the dance-like martial art of Brazil—in this outdoor, intergenerational performance with live music and traditional instruments. ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco, a women-led capoeira school and 31-year stronghold of the Mission District, will hold its annual Youth + Adult Batizado Performance and Graduation Ceremony outdoors for the public. In this traditional ritual, new students are initiated into the world of capoeira by playing with a master-level artist and continuing students may receive a new cord (like a karate belt) in recognition of their growth. Top-level guest artists from Brazil and throughout the US will perform. This show is free and family-friendly, so bring a picnic and come experience Brazilian arts!
