Duniya Dance and Drum Company today announced the Fourth Annual African Arts Festival, a free, family-friendly celebration of live music and dance performed by nine Bay Area ensembles representing different regions of Africa and the African diaspora. Scheduled to perform are Duniya Dance and Drum Company, Chinyakare Ensemble, Diamano Coura, Feline Finesse, Shabbal Al Sudan, Arenas Dance Company, Bongo Sidibe and the Ton Tons, with DJ Claude Black Bangando and MC Silah Mutungi. The Festival will also feature vendors offering a variety of traditional African food and goods for sale, including clothing, jewelry, hair care, and skin care, as well as interactive activities for children. The African Arts Festival takes place 11:00am-4:30pm on Sunday, October 16 at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park in San Francisco. Admission is free. McLaren Park offers free parking and disability access. Free shuttle service will be provided between Balboa Park Bart Station and the Amphitheater.

“The idea for the festival came from the desire to bring Africans and the diaspora together as one community in the Bay Area, to inspire each other and share each other’s culture,” explains Bongo Sidibe, Artistic Director, Duniya Dance and Drum Company. “We are highlighting joy and celebrating who we are as Black people.”

The fourth iteration of the African Arts Festival is returning for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Mainstage performances will start at 11:30am with Duniya Dance and Drum Company followed by Feline Finesse at 12:10pm, Chinyakare Ensemble at 12:35pm, Diamano Coura at 1 pm, Shabbal Al Sudan at 1:30pm, Arenas Dance Compay offers a performance and dance class at 1:55 pm, Fua dia Congo at 2:50pm and culminating in a special performance from Duniya Dance and Drum Company co-founder and Artistic Director, Bongo Sidibe and the Ton Tons.
