Event Details

Networking, music, and dance. Junteenth celebration, fashion show and more.

Modern Ethnic Fashion week opening ceremony, kickoff event and Juneteenth celebration in partnership with OneVet OneVoice, and African Arts Academy.

This year we are pleased to welcome our Guest of Honor Supervisor Shamann Walton.

SF MODEFA is a three-day charity event that combines live music, an art exhibit, a panel discussion, and a fashion runway show that highlights ethnic cultures. The Kickoff Party is also a way to celebrate Juneteenth featuring African American fashion designers and a live music showcase featuring Rap Artist Black Jokers10, and  an African headline band from the Ivory Coast. Being that Abidjan, the capital of Cote d’Ivoire is a sister city to San Francisco, this is a coalition of cultures that brings both communities together.

Recognizing black veterans in San Francisco in a special panel discussion on the role of art as a healer in reducing stress and PTSD presented by ModVation Diversity Ventures in partnership with OneVet OneVoice, and the African Arts Academy. This year’s ModVation Talk Panel Discussion features San Francisco’s first black War Memorial Commission Chair and Veteran Affairs Commissioner Courtney Ellington, Tuskegee Airmen’S National Heritage Chair, Leigh Roberts, Jeanette Fisher Kouadio Chair of the San Francisco Abidjan Sister City, Angah Miessi, Honorary Consul of Cote d’Ivoire, an award ceremony honoring black veterans.

A special fashion show featuring Bayview-born fashion designer Terrance Silas, and up and comung young talented Crochet master Kiari Lewis.

Proceeds from Modern Ethnic Fashion Week’s charity event will go toward the African Arts Academy to help establish an after school and summer program that will provide African dance and drumming lessons to San Francisco residents. The program will serve both adults, and kids, from ages 5 to 17, in the historically underserved Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood at the San Francisco Bayview Southeast Community Center. The program is also accessible to San Francisco veterans who are struggling with mental health and PTSD. The funds will help provide scholarships to students from low income families at very little or no cost. Help reduce gun violence, keep folks off the streets, and reduce car theft.
