Original Event Description:

13 Bay Area opera companies unite for a free outdoor concert at the Transamerica Pyramid Center Redwood Park. Sunday, September 20, 1–5 PM.

Opera Day in the Bay

Sunday, September 20, 1–5 p.m. at the Redwood Park at the base of San Francisco’s iconic Transamerica Pyramid Center. Enter the park at 545 Sansome Street, between Washington and Clay Streets.

Opera Day in the Bay brings together Ars Minerva, Festival Opera, Lamplighters Music Theatre, Livermore Valley Opera, Mercury Opera Theater, Opera Parallèle, Opera San José, Pocket Opera, Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, San Francisco Opera Guild, Upspark Productions, West Edge Opera — each performing a curated selection that showcases their unique artistic voice.

The program spans more than three centuries of opera, from Baroque masterpieces of the 17th century to compelling contemporary and newly created works. Bay Area composer and emcee Carla Lucero will guide you through the afternoon. This performance is dedicated to the memory of celebrated soprano, educator, and mentor Erie Mills, whose artistry and leadership left an indelible mark on the Bay Area opera community.

Never been to an opera? You’re in exactly the right place.

With thirteen companies and four centuries of music, there’s something for every ear. Drop in for an aria or stay for the whole afternoon — there’s no wrong way to experience it. Feel free to ask your neighbors questions — opera fans love sharing their passion, and we love welcoming new ones. Come curious, leave inspired.
