SF’s “Blessing of the Fleet” and Fishing Boat Parade (2024)
The festival of “La Madonna Del Lume” (also known as “The Blessing of the Fishing Fleet”) is a Sicilian tradition of protecting fishermen that have been practiced in San Francisco for 84 years.
The annual blessing and fishing boat parade is an annual procession from St. Peter and Paul’s Church in North Beach down to Fisherman’s Wharf with a blessing of the fleet and a fishing boat parade and Memorial Ceremony at sea.

According to the Italian Heritage Parade, the memorial ceremony at sea and fishing boat parade is Saturday at 11:15am
According to the SFMTA the annual La Madonna de Lume parade and the Blessing of the Fishing Fleet will begin with a procession at 2 p.m. from Saint Peter and Paul’s Church on Washington Square. The procession will proceed to Jefferson Street between Jones and Taylor streets via Columbus Avenue and Leavenworth Street for the blessing celebration at approximately 3 p.m. The parade will consist of about 100 people, two vehicles.The following street closures will be required:
- From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Filbert Street between Stockton and Powell streets
- From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Jefferson Street between Jones to Taylor streets
