The Chef: Matteo Maritati, southern Italian born, moved to London at the young age of 22 and joined the Gordon Ramsay Group as Demi Chef in the newly opened Bread Street Kitchen. From there, he started a stellar career with the Gordon Ramsay Group by working in different of their restaurants including Union Street Cafè, Maze Grill Mayfair, and Chealsea, learning various techniques within cultures and cuisines, until he became the Head Chef for Heddon Street Kitchen, the famous Gordon Ramsay owned restaurant at Piccadilly Circus. He attributes his great successes to his mom, who taught him how to cook and all the secret ingredients for traditional Italian recipes.

The event: This is a hands-on class! Our incredible Chef will be live, will teach us the recipe step by step, will cook with us and will be available for all questions. Be ready to cook during this class, so make sure you have all the ingredients listed above. After the class, stay with us to enjoy the result of your hard work for a virtual lunch if you’d like and meet new people from all over the world.
Shelter-in-Plate is an initiative of the group Pugliesi in California to bring some joy and comfort during quarantine. Playing with that name, we created different online classes, each one taught by an expert of the topic. The classes are free, family-friendly, and aim to bring people together during a time in which it is hard to share experiences safely. These virtual events are a way to learn new skills, “meet” new people in a safe space and spend some time together while respecting social distancing. All other classes are listed on our Pugliesi in California Facebook page.
The community: Pugliesi in California is a vibrant, inclusive and beautiful community of people from Puglia, a region in the South of Italy, who now live in California. We organize many different events every year that include cultural, artistic, and traditional aspects of our region including music, food, and art. These events aim to make the members of the group feel at home and close to their cultural background while spreading and sharing our culture with people from all over the world.
