Ex Postal Facto: Three-Day Celebration of Postal Art & Letter Writing | SF

Ex Postal Facto is a three day celebration of correspondence art and letter writing event taking place at three different locations.

A passport will be available for purchase in which attendees can collect commemorative artists stamps that will be given at the three different events.  

“Mail/Art/Book”  Opening
Friday, February 14, 2014
The exhibit “Mail/Art/Book” is hosting an opening at the San Francisco Center for the Book, 375 Rhode Island Street, SF, on February 14, from 6-9 pm. Activities include a mail art “creation station” and a special postal cancellation and event passport stamping station. Make your mail art and deposit at the postal “counter.”

The History of West Coast Mail Art

The panel discussion “The History of West Coast Mail Art” will be moderated by John Held, Jr at the SF Public Library’s Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, on February 16, from 1- 3:30 pm.

  • 1 pm lecture: “A History of West Coast Mail Art” with guest speakers Lowell Darling, Carl Chew, Leslie Caldera, and Anna Banana. Moderated by John Held, Jr.
  • 2:30 pm lecture: “Artistamps and Their Makers: Seeing the World in Miniature” with guest speakers James Cline, Harley/Terra Candella, James Felter, and Ginny Lloyd. Moderated by Jennie Hinchcliff
  • 3:45 pm: Reception for speakers and Ex Postal Facto attendees

All events are free and open to the public.
