South First Fridays Art Walk (San Jose)

Join an eclectic evening of arts and culture in downtown San Jose’s SoFA district (and beyond) every first Friday of the month. Please note that South First Fridays is typically canceled in July and January due to the holidays.

South First Fridays hours depend on the gallery. Facebook seems to have the most updated information.

Come check out nearly 20 galleries, shops, bars and even a yoga studio  — all venues participating in South First Fridays, a free monthly art walk on and around First Street in San Jose.

The November 2, 2012 South First Friday Art Walk highlights will include:

South Bay Circus Arts Collective at San Jose Stage Company Courtyard – 490 South First St.
outh Bay Circus Arts Collective is dedicated to spreading the love of circus arts throughout the South Bay. We host outdoor circus jams and skill shares where people can come play, learn, and exchange circus skills. We include people of all skill levels from the newest beginners to seasoned performers, and they will perform fire dancing, eating and other circus acts in the courtyard of San Jose Stage company, starting at 7 pm

San Jose Jazz at Pagoda Restaurant & Bamboo Lounge – 170 South Market St.
Mads Tolling — A Tribute to Jean-Luc Ponty
France’s own Jean-Luc Ponty has been at the forefront of jazz violin for decades. He has singlehandedly brought the electric violin and the European tradition of great jazz-violin playing to the U.S. Ponty met Danish violinist Mads Tolling at Berklee College of Music and recommended Mads to Stanley Clarke, where Mads has been a five-year member in the Stanley Clarke Band. This tribute to Jean-Luc Ponty will include fresh takes on Ponty’s recordings from Enigmatic Ocean to Imaginary Voyage.

Ben Henderson at Caffé Frascati – 315 South First St.
Caffé Frascati presents an evening with San Jose’s very finest singer/songwriters, including Adira Shark, Chris Landon and Cado, with special guest Ben Henderson in his final Bay Area performance before his East Coast tour
