Event Details

The spirit of “suul” (Korean for “alcohol”) is more than a “quick pint after work.” It’s a uniquely Korean spirit of hospitality and camaraderie, where the motto to “play as hard as we work” is on full display. We work hard together through a long day. We gather for an equally long night of libations paired with Korean soul food that extends and enhances the merriment. Some say the “spirit” and “team building” reflected in suul is the secret to South Korea’s success.

Join us to learn about the spirit of suul from three young Korean American suul makers who have crafted their unique brands of beer, makgeolli and wine, and are working to infuse this ancient custom into American culture. Welcome to the Spirit of the Suul Makers!

Moderator: Jeannie Kim (SAMS)
Panelists: Carol Pak (Makku), Youngwon Lee (Dokkaebier) & Cecil Park (Innovatus Wine)
[Note: Beverages by our suul makers and Korean food pairings are available for purchase on SAMS’s website for those wanting to enjoy a tasting during the event!
