At Stay Alive Oakland Public Safety Forum, participants will hold frank and respectful conversation about race, public safety, and opportunity for young people of color in Oakland.
Free, but an RSVP is required.
The goal is to discuss what a safer and more just Oakland looks like for young men and women of color and to develop a set of policy recommendations that can be presented to city, county, and public safety officials.
They are asking both panelists and attendees to come to the forum with productive solutions, and they look forward to an extensive dialogue representing the diverse views and backgrounds of this great city.
The panel will include:
- Youth Leaders
- Advocates for Criminal Justice Reform and Civil Rights
- A Representative from the Oakland Police Department
- A Representative from the Oakland Citizen’s Police Review Board
- A Representative from the Legal Community
- A Representative from the Business Community
- Local City Officials
After the forum, they expect to have a list of strong recommendations to move forward with. The leadership represented at the forum will continue to meet and solidify a strategic action framework guided by a mutually established common agenda based on the community feedback received at the forum. Progress towards building a better and safer Oakland for people of color, and for every person who calls Oakland home, will be tracked over time and reported back to the larger community in late spring next year.
