Strata: Solo Art Show | Oakland

The Fourth Wall Gallery in Oakland is featuring artist Carrie Ann Plank beginning August 12th, and running through September 17th. Plank works in printmaking, painting, and glass. She combines new technologies with the tradition of printmaking. This intersection adds perspective to printmaking through the contrasts of old and new, anarchistic and orderly.

Plank’s series at Fourth Wall is titled Strata. It plays with taking recognizable objects, distilling them to their most base structure, abstracting them, de-contextualizing them, and then subsequently placing them in new contexts. This produces a conflict in the viewer as a discomforting familiarity.
