Event Details

This summer marks the 40th anniversary of Evel Knievel‘s famous attempt to jump Idaho’s Snake River Canyon. Come to The Thing Quarterly office to see a collection of Evel ephemera, belonging to SF’s Gallery 16 owner, artist, and racountour Griff Williams, who was a cousin of the 1970’s Motorcycle Daredevil.

The collection includes home movies of the Snake River jump, hospital x-rays of Evel’s injuries, and the original blueprints of Evel’s famous Skycycle. These will be on display for your viewing pleasure at The Thing Quarterly from July 24 to August 29, 2014.

Also of equal interest and excitment are the two 8mm home movies shot by Griff’s mom and dad. The filmic time capsule is comprised of moments from Griff’s life as a young boy growing up in 1970s Montana. The home movie also contains footage of Evil’s failed jump of the Snake River and other moments with young Griff and Evel. These two 9 min. films will be be scored and played with live synth and electronic accompanyment by the Bay Area’s astounding Kelley Stoltz and Justin Frahm.

  • Reception and Short Film Screening: 5-8:30 pm
  • Screening and Performance: 7 pm with live score by Kelley Stoltz & Justin Frahm
  • Evel Cocktail: A special Wild Turkey cocktail (Evel’s drink of choice)
  • Seating: Blankets for seating and cuddling provided by Nipomo
  • Viewing Dates: Collection will be on display from July 24 to August 29, 2014
