At 1 pm at the Bird & Beckett Bookshop in Glen Park, Dore Stein will tantalize you with visions of Istanbul & Turkey and the cultural wonders, mostly musical, he’s found there on annual 2-week tours that include 10 concerts in 14 days, in venues ranging from private homes to concert halls to underground caves. Live music from oud/baglama player Gary Hegedus.

At 2:30 pm, Don Brennan will reveal the story nestled in the pages of his novel, Barbaria, a story unfolding from the intersection of race, sex, and human proclivities in the historical matrix that was this geographic region circa 1895

At 4:30, the San Francisco Bluegrass and Old Time Festival is co-presenting with Bird & Beckett a show featuring Bernal Heights’ own hayseed musikers “The Knuckle Knockers” and, straight from Gordonsville, Virginia, fiddlin’ Alex Caton and her musical partner, Pete Winne.
