For this exciting urban San Francisco hike, you’ll meet your fearless leader, Jill Katz outside of Java on Ocean (1700 Ocean Ave) in the parking lot across the street.
So what’s the plan, Jill?
You will go find the Sundial: Fifteen hundred people attended an opening ceremony on October 13, 1913, at Ingleside Terraces for the 28-foot high marble and concrete building of the world’s largest sundial to commemorate the opening of the Panama Canal. (Courtesy Margie Whitnah.) Why a sundial? To show potential buyers they could leave the fog behind and move to a sunny suburb.
You will then go up through tree-lined streets to the top of Mt. Davidson. Oooh-aaah, look at the pretty views! This is the tallest peak in SF.
Following that you will head downhill through West Portal to Golden Gate Heights Park. And yet another pretty view.
You will then wind your way through Golden Gate Park (maybe Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill?) Finally you will end at Buckshot Bar and Gameroom for very well deserved beers.
Please Note: This is an A to B meaning it is a one way ride you will need to figure out how to get home from Geary Street as we will not be returning to Ingelside.
