On this hike led by Funcheap’s favorite city hiking enthusiast, Jill Katz, you will begin at the Balboa Park Bart station. (Walk upstairs and take the Geneva exit. You will meet outside the station.)
You will then proceed up San Jose Avenue and cross over 280 to Cayuga Playground. This place is awesome and has a ton of very cool sculptures and a beautiful iron gate.
After Cayuga Playground you will walk city streets until you arrive at the Geneva entrance to John McLaren Park. This has great views of San Bruno and the Bay.
You will then explore San Francisco’s second-largest park. It’s an immense Natural Area of scenic meadows, grassland and wetland habitat. More than 7 miles of walking trails meander through its 312 acres, replete with native plants and wildlife. Established in 1927, the park is named for John McLaren, the ‘grandfather of Golden Gate Park.’
The Philoshoper’s Trail winds us by two lakes and has a stellar view of the city. You will loop to the water tower for yet another beautiful view of the city. You will then head down hill to Broken Record Pub (cause you know you will be parched) where the group can sit outside on picnic tables and have an ice cold beverage. They also have yummy food too.
This is an A to A meaning you’ll loop back to Balboa Park Station.
