Event Details

In My Valentines: 21 Years of Portraits from the Family Album noted SF photographer Lucy Hilmer made a photo book about a classic series of B&W portraits (1987–2009), made each year of her daughter, Annie.

Meet Photographer Lucy Hilmer at the Noe Valley Public Library. Ms. Hilmer will show photos and read poetry from the book.

The portraits, originally sent out as the annual family Valentine postcard, are presented as postcards in the book as well. In just 23 images, we see a 3-day-old-infant girl blossom into a 21-year-old woman who’s come of age—and always, in an ever-changing relationship to a rose and some abstracted form of her father.

About The Artist: Lucy Hilmer
For over 35 years, photographer, filmmaker and poet, Lucy Hilmer, has attempted to stop time by filming and photographing at regular intervals, the ever-changing lives of herself, her family and friends, creating multiple B&W, photographic series-in-time. Hilmer says, “I’m an archivist, a collector. It’s a way of life.
