Valentine’s Day Free Cappuccino Day & Foam Heart Class | Castro

Grab your sweetie and learn how to create coffee with a heart for charity this Valentine’s Day with multi award-winning Master Barista, Giorgio Milos, at espressamente illy Castro on February 14, 2014.

Get a free cappuccino if you participate in the free foam heart class given by Giorgio every hour on the hour from 8 am to 3 pm. (Limit one per customer and class spots are limited)

Missed the group class? No worries. You can still purchase a cappuccino and get a free private heart making class until 4 pm. And for every coffee heart that you tweet or Instagram, illy will donate $1 to the local community organization, North Beach Citizens.

Giorgio Milos is a Specialty Coffee Association of Europe-certified Trainer and Master Barista, Italian Barista Champion and top World Barista Championship contender, and now illy’s North American Barista in Residence.

Can’t be there? illy will be extending the charity event over social media for 24 hours.

Cappuccino heart how-to:

1. Steam the milk until it’s thick and creamy, with not too much foam.

2. Pour espresso into a coffee cup, keeping it slightly to one side.

3. Swirl the milk in the pitcher until the milk surface shines.

4. Pour the steamed milk in the center of the espresso slowly at first, then faster.

6. When the milk is halfway gone, keep pouring, but gently move the pitcher right-left to facilitate the foam-pour.

7. When the milk is almost gone, and the “apple” shape appears, reduce the pouring speed and move the pitcher over and across the surface. The small, remaining trail of foam will pull a line through the center of the apple, creating a heart shape.
