“Into the Wild” A Solo Exhibition by Jamie Morgan
Opening Reception Saturday, Aug 8 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM
Exhibition on view Friday, Aug 7 through Sunday, Sept 13
Jamie Morgan’s landscape paintings developed from gritty etchings, monoprints, and pastel drawings of urban landscapes, mostly done in black and white, during graduate work in printmaking at CCAC (MFA, 1987). His work was represented by the Barclay Simpson Gallery in Lafayette, California, and by Hang in San Francisco while he balanced work in commercial sign painting and community sponsored murals. Summer holidays on the coast of Maine have provided a venue for plein air watercolors. Recently oils have become a mainstay in capturing the accessible natural beauty of the San Francisco Bay Area. Morgan has also created numerous public art murals, both in an educational capacity, for many schools and notably commissions for The Creative Work Fund (1997) and Highland Hospital’s Pediatric Center (2003), as well as collaboratively with other artists, notably commissions for the I.L.W.U. (1986) and the new Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center (2006). He resides and maintains a studio in Oakland, CA.
All of Jamie Morgan’s paintings have been done en plein air, from life. He does not use photographs because his intent is to better capture the atmosphere and light of each place. Nature provides countless tutorials in the search for color, form, and meaning. “Into the Wild” expresses the awe he holds for the vitality of natural forms found so close to the human intervention of the city. Dominant features may provide focal points in his compositions, but this vitality is his recurrent theme.
The Gallery is open Friday – Sunday 12-6PM or by appointment. For an appointment, please email email@example.com .
