Comedians DJ REAL and Chad Optiz present a night of experimental comedy and music at Stage Werx with special guests Jordan Thewlis and Sureni Weerasekera.

DJ REAL and Chad will each do a 30 min set and collaborate in a musical comedy extravaganza.

DJ REAL is a musician, comedian, writer and filmmaker who is best known for his multimedia / musical comedy act, which has been featured at Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest, Big Sky Comedy Festival, Outside Lands, San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival and more! He most recently appeared on the TV show “Flophouse” on Viceland and as a host on NBC’s show “The Guest List” on Seeso. And he’s opened for Devo, Scott Thompson and Bridget Everett! Chad Opitz is a comic whose hilarious and unique perspectives make him an oft booked staple at Bay Area clubs and showcases. Veering between one-liners, short story jokes, and sometimes even song, Opitz’ writing is as well-regarded as his character and performance work. Chad has been a featured guest on the Doug Loves Movies Podcast and The Benson Interruption. He was a featured performer at the 2016-2019 San Francisco Sketchfests. Chad was the winner of Bay Area legend Jimmy Gunn’s “Best Newcomer” award. He is a regular host at Punch Line San Francisco and Sacramento, Cobb’s Comedy Club and is a feature act at Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Club and San Jose Improv. Chad has been featured in several short films and commercials, including Walgreens Red Nose Day to help end child poverty. He was cast as “young Francis Ford Coppola for the upcoming 4th season of Amazon Prime’s Goliath starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Jordan Thewlis is a comedian and writer based out of Oakland, California. He’s a daily Contributor to The Onion.com, and his stand-up has been featured in SF Sketchfest for the past two years. He’s the lead producer of Don’t Tell Comedy in Oakland, CA, co-produces Beef Curtains with Geneva Rust-Orta, and has a monthly show called Big Mood Comedy at the Legionnaire Saloon in Oakland. He also wrote a short play called Saving Mr. Bezos that made it to the final round of Pianofight’s SF Short Lived Competition. Sureni Weerasekera is a Sri Lankan-born, San Diego-raised, & San Francisco-based stand up comedian, actor and writer. Sureni Weerasekera combines her puppy-like heart with the void where her soul should be, to write captivating material. Starting at just seventeen, she has garnered respect in the Bay Area for her lighthearted, conversational banter to her ruthless, dark jabs that shed light on cultural dilemmas in a palatable, enticing way. In 2018, The Daily Californian described her “humorous quips” as featuring “an ease with performing typically uncommon for someone still fairly fresh to the game.” She has performed at 2020 SF Sketchfest & Desi Comedy Festival and recently featured for Frank Castillo. Sureni has hosted and co-produced two of Berkeley’s top shows “Pizza Party” and “Subhumans.” She is also a contributing writer for San Francisco’s live sketch troupe, “Killing My Lobster” and a writer/actor for video sketch group “Life of Trying.”
