Event Details

See two screenings of the movie that inspired runner’s all over the country. Come dressed in your best “Pre” costume and have a chance to win great prizes. ING Bay to Breakers and Yelp will be on hand providing giveaways (including tix to Outside Lands), deeply discounted registration to ING Bay to Breakers and much more.

6:30pm Film – Prefontaine: A naturalistic dramatization of record breaking distance runner Steve Prefontaine’s struggle to win, culminating in the 1972 Munich Olympics, this film favors documentary-style character development more than conventional “sports film” hero worship. A feature-film breakthrough for director Steve James and co-producer/cinematographer Peter Gilbert (the creative team behind HOOP DREAMS), as well as Jared Leto who plays Steve Prefontaine.

8:30pm Film – Without Limits: Robert Towne’s bio-pic about the legendary long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine. The picture follows Pre’s Oregon upbringing, through his days at Oregon University (where he met and worked with famed running coach Bill Bowerman), through the Munich Olympics. Sadly, his career was cut short at the age of twenty-four when he was killed in a car accident, adding to the myth of this talented, inspired athlete. Starring Billy Crudup, Donald Sutherland, Monica Potter and Jeremy Sisto
