The oldest community orchestra on the West Coast, the San Francisco Civic Symphony, was founded in 1931 by Mrs. Sigmund Stern and Josephine D. Randall, superintendent of the Recreation and Park Department. We continue Mrs. Stern’s legacy of providing classical music in a welcoming environment for musicians of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
