Chili Cook-Off, Mixtape Swap & Live Music | Oakland
>> Want to see our Top Picks for this week instead?
Issues | 20 Glen Avenue, Oakland, CA
You’re invited to the 5 Year Anniversary Party of Oakland’s favorite magazine store, Issues on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Try some tasty chili for free and vote on your favorite, and bring your best mixtapes to swap. They’ll have discounts all day, DJs inside the store playing the best summer hits, and local vibraphonist Mark Clifford will be performing outside.
Chili Cook Off – 1PM-3PM
Sample all the chili entries for free in the first ever Chili Cook Off. Make your vote count in the People’s Choice category of the contest.
At 2PM, our esteemed panel of judges will be judging the entries and deciding whose chili reigns supreme! Our panel is comprised of: Chef Justin Yu of Hawker Fare restaurant in downtown Oakland, Max Schaaf of skater/chopper fame and the man behind 4Q Conditioning, and punk cartoonist/animator Janelle Hessig – creator of Tales of Blarg.
Interested in competing? Please email info@issuesshop.com by May 31 with a short paragraph on your chili concept OR why you want to enter the ISSUES 5 Year Anniversary Chili Cook Off. Find the “Rules and Regulations” here.
Mixtape Exchange – 1PM-4PM
Bring in as many copies of your best mix tape (or CD) to trade with others. You will get to trade one for one – that’s a lot of new music. Tell your friends – the more mixes we have the more fun it will be.
Creativity will be rewarded, so go wild! It’s time to break out all your rarities and secret weapons. Joe will also be trading his new comp – it will also be available to purchase if you don’t have a mix to trade.
