Come and celebrate the opening of the 21st Annual Arab Film Festival with Solitaire (Mahbas). The Arab Film Festival is the largest independent annual showcase of Arab films and filmmakers in the country. The festival has an international standing and is considered one of the most important Arab film festivals outside the Arab world. It strives to present the best contemporary films that provide insight into the beauty, complexity and diversity of the Arab world alongside realistic perspectives on Arab people, culture, art, history and politics.

Opening Night Film: Solitaire  (Sophie Buotros / Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon / 2016 / 92mins) – 20 years past the Lebanese-Syrian war and Therese is still embittered towards everything “Syria” due to her beloved brother’s death by a Syrian bomb. Today, she joyfully prepares for a visit of her daughter’s suitor and his parents; however, when the long-awaited guests arrive, and to Therese’s dismay: it’s discovered… they are Syrian.
