Event Details

The Berkeley Bird Festival returns for another year! Don’t miss your chance to celebrate the region’s birdlife and our shared natural environment at this free one-day family friendly event.
This year’s Berkeley Bird Festival will continue to give Bay Area residents and visitors alike the opportunity to honor and appreciate local birdlife through a range of free activities (advanced registration is required for field trips and some activities at berkeleybirdfestival.org)
The festival will take place all day, with some field trips starting as early as 8am and others ending as late as 6pm. Brower Center activities will run from 12 – 5pm, while chalk art sites on the UC Campus will run from 9am – 5pm.
The 2023 festival offers birding field trips throughout the city of Berkeley at sites including; Berkeley Aquatic Park, Cesar Chavez Park, Vollmer Peak and more.
On the UC Berkeley campus, the local student-led Bears for Birds club will run birding tours. There will also be two community chalk art sites — one in front of Li Ka Shing Center and the other at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology (MVZ). The MVZ will be hosting “behind the scenes” tours of its collection as well as tabling with other local conservation organizations just outside of the MVZ.
In downtown Berkeley, the David Brower Center will host arts and craft activities, bird-related information and action tables, and a very special in-person program — Winged Wonderment — an afternoon of bird-related stories, images, poems, songs, and demonstrations by writers, poets, birders, scientists, activists, artists, and bird-lovers.
The Berkeley Bird Festival is made possible by the financial support of the UC Berkeley Chancellor’s Community Partnership Fund, the City of Berkeley Civic Arts Commission, and by the participation of the following partners: the UC Berkeley Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, Berkeley Public Library, Bears for Birds, International Bird Rescue, Raptors Are The Solution, Palomacy, Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue, Cal Falcons, David Brower Center, Front Porch Farm, Folding for Justice, Heyday, Gather Restaurant, Berkeley Community Gardening Collaborative, and the Bay Area Queer Zine Fest.
