Here’s a great free weekend hike idea from SFGATE’s Zach Zafran
Mission Peak Regional Preserve in Fremont is one of the most popular parks in the East Bay Regional Park District.
Within the preserve, the Mission Peak summit sits over 2,500 feet high, offering a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Bay Area and beyond that once had crowds flocking to the park.
For extensive details about the hike including photos, multiple locations to park, and directions, check out the article Fremont’s Mission Peak hike reveals views from the Bay Area’s past from SFGATE
The peak itself is accessible from a number of places including ascending via the 3-mile Peak Trail from Ohlone College, where there’s also an abundance of parking for $4.
Along the way you’ll wander by cows, golden grasslands and a steep final push to the peak where you’ll find an oddly-shaped pillar knows as the “Mission Peeker” with eye holes revealing the Bay’s tallest peaks. And, if it’s clear, you’ll have earned spectacular 360-degree views of the whole Bay Area include Mt. Tam, the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sierra Nevadas
Getting There:
Mission Peak trailhead, Ohlone College, 43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont. Open daily, year-round, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
