Opening reception for a Pop-Up Gallery in Union Square, SF
I came across a quote that feels especially true in this moment:
“They’ll tell you the arts and humanities aren’t practical, and then read poetry at funerals and weddings, cry at films, and search for meaning in ancient philosophy. Surviving is one kind of practicality—knowing why we bother is another.”
This show is about why we bother. Why we continue to create, gather, and make meaning even in dark times.
Displaced takes place in Union Square, San Francisco—a neighborhood that once thrived but has been hollowed out since COVID. Empty storefronts line the streets, but this exhibition is here to do something different: to bring life, art, and community back into the heart of the city. It’s a step toward revitalization, driven by creativity, collaboration, and the belief that culture is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
