Beatnik Photowalk & Free Museum Admission | North Beach to SoMa

Whether you’ve barely heard of Allen Ginsberg or have a dog-eared copy of HOWL on your bedside table, it’s time to take out your camera and take a closer look at the Beat Generation stories beneath your feet here in SF.

Inspired by the exhibition “Beat Memories: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg,” this photowalk will kick off in North Beach and end at the Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM), with free admission for all participants. They’ve created a customized, visually-oriented tour with The Beat Museum that will take you to some familiar places and some you’ve probably never noticed.

Pick up your instructions at 1 pm in Jack Kerouac Alley and go it alone, or join a group and explore together. Follow the tour all the way to the CJM to receive free admission to “Beat Memories,” and pick Beat Museum founder Jerry Cimino’s brain about besties Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, and Allen Ginsberg.

Instagram fan? Use Instagram to capture the Beat Generation history beneath your feet, then show them off at the CJM after for some Beat-inspired prizes, like Beatnik kit essentials (Moleskine notebooks, Pocket Poetry from from City Lights Booksellers & Publishers, a Herschel backpack, and yes, even a beret).
