Human beatbox and vocal magician Yuri Lane will present his “coolly extraordinary” travelogue of peace, From Tel Aviv to Ramallah: A Beatbox Journey at Osher Marin JCC in San Rafael on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
Part hip-hop performance, part street-wise documentary, Lane’s play weaves a vox-pop tapestry of Palestinian and Israeli voices into a mosaic of the Middle East.
Ample free parking. Concessions including coffee, beer, wine & snacks avail for purchase.
Against a backdrop of live visuals by Sharif Ezzat, muezzin calls and Tel Aviv traffic, the lives of Khalid and Amir—one Israeli, one Palestinian—progress and intertwine with a hip-hop beat despite their being separated by military border crossings.
Lane’s performances have been featured in top media outlets including USA Today, New York Times, and Chicago Tribune, and in music magazines, Afropop Worldwide and Pop Matters. Nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for best new play, the show has enjoyed runs in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore, Atlanta, across the US and internationally, including in Helsinki, London and Jerusalem. Yuri Lane continues to electrify audiences worldwide.
