Event Details

The theatrical production house Custom Made is putting on a series of “play readings” in which they’ll act/read plays that are rarely done but deserve another chance to be heard.

This week, it’s a play reading of “Romulus the Great (Unhistorical historical comedy)” by Friedrich Durrenmatt, as directed by Gabriel A. Ross.

It’s free and it’ll be preceded by trivia and followed by stimulating discussion. Drinks will be available for consumption if you want to spend a few bucks. The popcorn’s totally free.

“Romulus the Great” was Rome’s final emperor and the play, which is set in 476 AD, was Durrenmatt’s first major dramatic success and was first published and produced in 1950 but was re-released in 1957. “Romulus…” explores some of Durrenmatt’s recurring themes of the conflicts between the individual, the state and leadership as well as the conflict between our plans and the plans of fate.
