What’s Closing Night at Precita Park without live music and a special surprise? As always, the weekend ends on a high note with an outdoor party-picnic-street food buffet with all of our neighbors, friends and organizing partner.

Sunday, September 5, 6:30-9:30pm
Closing Night
Precita Park
Folsom Street at Precita Avenue

MUSIC:
London Street — 6:30–7:30pm

SCREENINGS — 7:30pm

FEELIN’ ALRIGHT Tiffany Graham, CACS TRT 6:50
Student Directors: Kiesha Ireland-Tran, Claire Kamibayashi and Andre Parker-Grisby
A group of 7th and 8th graders from Creative Arts Charter School made the music video,”Feelin’ Alright”, with guest artist Adrian Arias, in a “Video Shorts” class, as part of the Middle School Arts Electives Program. “Feelin’ Alright” represents the collective and poetical belief of these students that one of our country’s greatest hopes for the future lies in the creation of music and art.

THE HEALER Alex Vargas TRT 6:10
Martin does not know it, but his father has lost their home to the bank. Martin meets the man in charge of his home’s demolition and in doing so he discovers a supernatural gift.

LA CAMINATA Jamie Meltzer TRT 15:00
Seven hours south of the US/Mexican Border lies the small town of Alberto, where the local community, like many pueblos across Mexico, has lost 80 percent of its population to migration into the US. But Alberto has a plan to revive its community, the creation of a theme-park event: a simulated border corssing, complete with balclave-cald “coyotes” as guides and “border patrol” that chase “migrants” over the terrain throughout the night. They call this event “La Caminata” — the journey, hike, trek.

LIKE A MOTE OF DUST Nicholas Quesada TRT 10:42
A short mockumentary chronicling the struggles of dust bunnies politically in a world where they are misunderstood and hated.

CARRY THAT WEIGHT Vincent Tremblay TRT 20:00
The little known or discussed dog sport of scootering and carting, which involves a dog pulling some sort of load behind it. Through interviews with dog trainers, owners, scooterers and carters, the film shows how these activities are accomplished, and also takes a look at their history, why they still exist and what they provide for the dogs and dog owners alike.

****INTERMISSION****

A VALENTINE FOR ALICE Amber Yada TRT 2:35
This animated short is about and inspired by the cinematic pioneer Alice Guy-Blache. Many consider her 1896 work, “Le Fée Aux Choux” to be the first fictional film in cinema’s history. So why isn’t she a household name, even within film circles? Well, let’s get to changing that!

UNDER HIS WINGS Phillip Cha TRT 8:09
Rochelle dreams of becoming an entrepreneur in the food business. But tormented by “voice” she seek help and is daignosed with schizophrenia. Rather than letting her illness permanently shatter her hopes for living a normal life, Rochelle finds strength through medication, family support, and her faith in God — but not without first coming to terms with her boyfriend’s surprising reaction to her illness, her anger at God, and dilemma regarding an unexpected pregnancy.

131 RUSS Silvia Turchin TRT 4:24
A poetic documentary that calls attention to beauty found in details of the anachronistic and declining, and suggests that this particular variety of melancholy beauty is born of a withdrawal from the world’s forward push. The protagonist of the film is a large 80-year-old food-manufacturing/co-packing factory in San Francisco.

THE PROFESSOR Jason Price TRT 25:00
In a meager, one-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of New York City lives a quiet, old man who was once President of an African nation. Former law professor and Supreme Court justice David D. Kpormakpor served as Interim President of Liberia between 1994-95, during its disastrous civil war. “Prof” now lives alone, on welfare, among thousands of other Liberian refugees, many of whom question why he did not simply take the money and run when he had the chance. An unforgettable, lyrical portrait of a decent man, THE PROFESSOR ultimately reflects upon the nature of honor and character in an often unjust world.
